About Dean

dean012

Native New Yorker Dean Christopher, a musician by training and temperament, has over 30 years of writing experience in advertising, journalism and entertainment.

As a copywriter and creative director he has created ad campaigns for major accounts at prominent ad agencies such as BBDO; Campbell-Ewald/Lintas; C-M-E/Saatchi (now Bozell). A longtime specialist in ethnic (particularly Hispanic) marketing, Dean has worked in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, Baltimore, San Antonio and Washington, D.C.

Descended from a family of journalists, Dean’s work has appeared in National Lampoon, SPIN, OMNI and others. He recently spent two years as a contributing editor for Discover Magazine, for whom he wrote book reviews and pieces for their popular back page feature “Twenty Things You Didn’t Know About …”  This concept was expanded into a 330-page book, under Dean’s authorship, released in March 2008 by HarperCollins as Discover’s 20 Things You Didn’t Know About Everything.

The book is available at book stores nationwide, on Amazon.com and here at www.christopherreport.com

Dean was educated at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C., the University of Madrid and the Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies. Before his advertising and journalism careers, he was a studio musician and record producer in New York, Paris and Madrid. He is still a passionate jazz pianist, composer and arranger.

Besides American English, he speaks fluent Spanish and French, comfortable Brazilian Portuguese, decent Italian. His German is pretty feeble, but it amuses German people, sometimes know what he’s trying to say. In recent years he has been dabbling with the rich Persian language, which is dabbling back with a vengeance.

He does not wear jewelry, a watch, use after-shave lotions or other fragrances, and hasn’t grown a beard since his 20s.

Dean’s pride and joy: daughter Amanda Burns, graduate in World Lit and Cinema from Essex University in England. Amanda is a budding writer (gee, where did THAT come from?), excellent sportswoman (her mom’s genes) and a disarmingly ruthless pool player. A British subject, she has lived in her native UK since childhood.

Dean is an unadorned fellow, clean in thought and deed.
